Full siteworks

From a green field to a live meter.

Full siteworks means the DNO (definition available), IDNO (definition available) or Gas Transporter has to physically install new infrastructure before anyone can fit a meter. It's the longer of the two journeys — but it's predictable when it's project-managed properly.

Typical timescale
8–14 weeks

From accepted DNO (definition available)/GT (definition available) quote to meter live. Complex HV (definition available), multi-meter or rural schemes can run 4–9 months.

Best case

Stage by stage

What happens, when, and who's doing it.

Six clear steps from your first call to a live supply. Your account manager runs every step — you only need to do the few small things highlighted below.

  1. 1
    Step 1
    Week 0–1

    Initial enquiry & load assessment

We capture site postcode, proposed kVA (definition available)/kW (definition available) load and go-live date. We pull the DNO (definition available)/GT (definition available) infrastructure record and tell you what's already in the ground.

YouShare postcode, load estimate and site plan if you have one.
  2. 2
    Step 2
    Week 1–6

DNO (definition available) / GT (definition available) formal quote

We lodge the connection application, manage the survey and return the design pack. Standard low-voltage quotes come back in 30 working days; HV (definition available) and complex gas can run longer.

YouApprove the application fee and the proposed connection design.
  3. 3
    Step 3
    Week 4–8

    Wayleaves & consents

Where the route crosses third-party land we negotiate wayleaves in parallel with the design. This is often the silent killer of project timescales — we keep it moving.

YouIntroduce neighbouring landowners or share existing easements.
  4. 4
    Step 4
    Week 6–12

    Physical siteworks

Cable lay, civils, substation install or gas service pipe and meter box. Network operator schedules drive this — typically 3–8 weeks once accepted and wayleaves are clear.

YouProvide safe site access and a clear meter position.
  5. 5
    Step 5
    Week 10–14

MPAN (definition available) / MPRN (definition available) issued & meter install

Infrastructure signed off, MPAN (definition available) or MPRN (definition available) issued, supply contract activated and our MOP (definition available) books the meter fit — usually within 5–10 working days of completion.

YouConfirm a date for the engineer visit.
  6. 6
    Step 6
    Week 14

    Energisation & live data

Meter installed, supply energised, billing data starts flowing. Your account manager stays on call for snagging, future capacity and renewals.

YouSwitch on and start using your new connection.
